Frequently Asked Questions
|
Q:
What is liquid glass?
A:
Liquid glass is silocon dioxide or SiO² (pure quartz glass). The molecules of SiO² are isolated and
held in either water or ethanol for application on absorbent or non-absorbent surfaces.
Liquid glass is invisible to the naked eye and does not alter the appearance or texture
of the treated surface.
Q:
What is a nanometer and how thick is the liquid glass coating?
A:
A nanometer (nm) is one-billionth of a meter. A typical sheet of paper is 100,000 nm thick.
A coating of liquid glass is about 100 nanometers thick, or 1/500th the thickness of a human hair.
Q:
What can liquid glass be applied to?
A:
Liquid glass can be applied to virtually all surfaces including glass, metals, fabrics, stone,
plastic, ceramic, porcelain, wood, concrete, paint, even seeds and foods (for protection against fungi).
Q:
How is liquid glass applied?
A:
Liquid glass is applied by spraying, dipping, or wiping. Instructions are supplied for each application.
Q:
Is liquid glass safe around food?
A:
Yes. It is food safe and mucosa friendly and has no negative physiological impact. In fact,
spraying seeds with liquid glass results in higher crop production since seeds use less
energy fighting off fungus. It can also be used on vines to prevent mildew, and other
crops to protect them from the elements and pests.
Q:
Is liquid glass anti-phobic?
A:
Yes. It is super-phobic and rejects all soiling elements, including solvents, acids,
and alkali up to 12.5 pH.
Q:
How durable is liquid glass?
A:
It is highly durable; domestic quality variants last approximately one year per application.
Professional variants last up to 5 years. Certain treatments last even longer, depending on traffic
or the severity of the elements.
Q:
Is liquid glass tolerant to temperature changes?
A:
Extremely. It is heat tolerant from -150°C (-238°F) to +450°C (-842°F), and so can be
applied to ovens, freezers, wash basins etc. This removes the need for oven cleaning
chemicals as one can simply clean the oven with water and a cloth.
Q:
Does liquid glass offer UV protection?
A:
Yes. It is UV stable and the nano layer is completely inert. A surface will not discolor
due to the sun or other elements.
Q:
Does liquid glass offer water protection?
A:
Yes. Although liquid glass is breathable, it will not allow the penetration of water or
other liquids. As such, liquid glass can be added to garments to make them
water-proof. It can also be used as a rain barrier on windshields, and other such applications.
Q:
Is liquid glass flexible?
A:
Yes. It is flexible (200%) at the molecular level and so it can be applied to steel, stone work,
statues and other surfaces that need to be able to expand/contract. It can also be added to
clothing and other textiles.
Q:
Is liquid glass environmentally friendly?
A:
Highly. Not only does it protect surfaces from the elements, no detergents are required for
cleaning. This has multiple environmental benefits since it reduces toxic effluents, and
also conserves water in the cleaning process since the secondary rinsing stage is not
required. It is also very good on the pocket book as the purchasing of cleaning agents is negated.
There are no added nano-particles, resins or additives and the coatings form and bond due to quantum forces.
Q:
Does liquid glass provide protection against germs and bacteria?
A:
Yes. Treated surfaces become "bio-static" through ionic exchange. This creates an environment
which will not support bacterial growth. This makes treatment ideal for sinks, taps, food prep
areas, nurseries, door handles, toilets, cash registers, conveyor belts, gyms, schools, hospitals,
chiller cabinets, etc. We also have an anti-bacterial variant which satisfies ASTMS E 2180.
This variant actually kills bacteria for the life of the coating.
